| Some of the class 305/1s were moved up to Manchester as spares donors for the class 305/2s that were moved there. After arriving, Regional Railways decided the units could be better used as further replacements for class 304s and they were pressed into service. Regional decided they couldn't justify repaining them, so simply painted out the NSE red stripe with Regional light blue, instead!

| dear rob,
it saddens me to look at this picture of dalston junction station where
i worked as a lengthman for british railways in 1959. each morning we checked
the rails on this stretch of line up to and
beyond kingsland road bridge. dalston junction station was used as a backdrop for
the movie ( look back in anger ) starring
richard burton and clair bloom. i remember
an old disused waiting room getting a fresh
coat of yellow paint for a brief scene with
richard burton in the converted tea room
that was seen in the film. rob, would you
have any more photos of dalston junction
showing the platforms area.
sincerely yours,
james o' hagan

| This class 153 is working a regular duty for the class - that of the Nuneaton - Coventry shuttle. The first working in the morning is from Birmingham New Street - Nuneaton via Coventry and provides a means of bringing the unit from Tyseley depot. One unit works the service all day and gets changed each night. |

| I think there's diagrams that take a couple over towards Leicester, as well, as the last time I visited 153333 decided to sit down at Coventry and had to be declared a failure. The replacement (in the form of 153325 and 153376) came in from the Leicester direction. That was only the second time this year I'd seen two class 153 units working as a pair on the Nuneaton-Coventry shuttle - the previous time being the 31st March, when 153364 and 153366 did the honours... |

| If you look closely this unit is running through platform 5 which is the up slow and is being put fast line over the crossover just under the A444 Leicester Road overbridge. Not a usual move except on weekends when the drags are in operation. |

| From observations I've made, when taking images at the station, the 15:40 to London Euston always utilises the up slow until it's Nuneaton stop, then crosses to the up fast for the remaining journey to Rugby. |

| Just sneaking into view to the left of the Pendolino unit is a signal. This is not just a mere signal. It is NN26 which controls the down fast at the end of Nuneaton platform 3. It is one of the few remaining signals in its original form with a round-topped head and position light signal showing its (out of use) call-on stencil. This signal dates from the 1963 resignalling for the WCML electrification and will probably get replaced over the next year with the Nuneaton resignalling and take over by Rugby SSI. |

| This class 158 unit was working an afternoon Birmingham New Street-Cambridge service. 158 units have not been seen on a regular basis for a while at Nuneaton (they seem to work the Tamworth-Derby route) but this service has been producing a 158 on a semi-regular basis and makes a nice change from the usual class 170s. |

| Note the variation in the Central Trains livery as applied to the 153. There is no blue 'swoosh' on the ends. The lower green stripe is also dealt with differently at each end. The original cab end has the green stripe curling down whilst the converted end with the new cab has the green stripe carrying on to the yellow cab ends. Although difficult to see in some pics there is also a red line below the orange cantrail stripe. |

| 153385 is the oddity in the CT class 153 fleet, in so far as the green stripe tapers at boths ends - where it only tapers at the original cab end on the rest of the fleet. 153385 was, as I recall, the first one repainted into those colours and I assume CT changed their minds about the design afterwards. |

| Hi Rob,
Nice picture of a place that looks a little familiar.. Please make your captions a little more signal orientated instead of concentrating on those powered boxes that run on the rails ;-)) For instance note NN26 to the left of your pic - a fine shot of one of the few remaining original round-headed signals installed with the original installation in 1962... But I digress - what I wanted to say was that the train in your pic is actually travelling over NN213 points onto the UP slow into platform 5 - sorry to be a pedant but keep up the nice pics. |
